Privacy
NeonBay is an unofficial fan site run by one person. It collects as little as it can get away with, sells nothing, and carries no advertising or tracking scripts.
Reading the site
You can read every article and use the map without an account. Doing so sets no cookies, and there is no analytics script, no advertising pixel and no third-party embed on these pages. The server keeps ordinary request logs for a short time, as any web server does.
If you make an account
An account exists so your map progress follows you between devices. It stores:
- your email address, and a display name if you give one;
- your password, hashed with scrypt — the original is never stored and cannot be recovered;
- which map points you have marked as found;
- the time you last signed in.
Signing in sets one cookie, nb_session. It holds a signed reference to your account, is httpOnly, lasts fourteen days, and is used for nothing but keeping you signed in. Changing your password invalidates it everywhere.
Failed sign-in attempts are counted for fifteen minutes against your email address and your IP address, so that passwords cannot be guessed at speed. The counters are discarded after that.
If you send something in
Proposing a map point or an article topic stores what you wrote, any screenshot you attach, and a link to your account so a moderator can reply and so you can see the decision. Moderator actions are recorded in an internal log — who decided what, and when — which is kept for accountability and is not public.
A point that gets accepted becomes part of the public map. Your name is not shown on it unless the map explicitly credits a contributor.
If you join the launch list
The launch notification list stores your email address, the language you were reading in, and which part of the site you signed up from. It is used for one thing: telling you when the map opens. Every message carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing is recorded so you are not mailed again.
Who else sees it
Nobody is sold or given your data. It passes through the services that run the site — hosting, the database, file storage for screenshots, and an email provider used only for verification, password-reset and launch messages. Each processes it only to deliver that service.
Getting rid of it
Write to the Telegram account in the footer and ask. Account deletion from inside the site is not built yet — when it is, this page will say so rather than implying otherwise. Unsubscribing from the launch list needs no account and works from any message it sends you.
Children
The site is not aimed at children and asks for no information from them. Grand Theft Auto VI is rated for adults.
Changes and contact
If what the site stores changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Questions go to the Telegram account linked in the footer.
